COMERICA BANK ANNOUNCES FINALISTS IN SECOND ANNUAL
COMERICA BANK VOTE FOR THE FLOAT CONTEST Floats will be voted on “American Idol-Style” via text messages and online during the 2010 Comerica Bank New Year’s Day Parade ![]() The Top 8 finalists are: Dallas ISD John B. Hood Middle School W.E. Greiner Middle School Harold W. Lang Sr. Middle School Robert S. Quintanilla Middle School Garland ISD AEC Middle School Hudson Middle School Webb Middle School Highland Park ISD Highland Park Middle School Students were asked to design their floats around this year’s parade theme “Celebrate Entertainment.” The float receiving the most votes will be awarded $12,500.00 to be dedicated to the winning school’s visual arts programs. Second place receives $6,000.00, third place receives $3,000.00 and the remaining five finalist schools will each receive $500.00. “Comerica Bank is committed to enriching the lives of local students through improved educational opportunities like the Vote for the Float contest,” said Connie Beck, EVP The Retail Bank, Comerica Inc. “This year’s entries run the gamut of different ways to be entertained from enjoying our region’s cultural attractions to celebrating the music of some of history’s most talented artists. It is very exciting to see how these students express themselves and the interests of their generation.” Voting on the floats will begin at 2:30 pm on January 1 and will conclude at 11:59 pm on January 2. AT&T customers can cast their vote via text message. Other voters can cast their vote online at www.voteforthefloat.com. Winners will be announced January 8, 2010. This is the second year for the Comerica Bank Vote for the Float competition. Last year, competition was limited to middle schools in Dallas ISD. This year, the competition was opened to all middle schools in public school districts across Dallas County. “We’re excited to participate again this year,” said Joanna Henry, W.E. Greiner Middle School. “The Comerica Bank Vote for the Float Contest is a creative opportunity for our students. It was so thrilling to win last year. This year we welcome the new competition from around the county and look forward to seeing what everyone has designed.” ![]() The Comerica Bank New Year’s Parade is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. The 1.5-mile parade route begins in the Dallas Arts District on Ross Ave. in front of the Dallas Museum of Art and concludes in Victory Park at Houston St. and All-Star Way. Pep rallies featuring the AT&T Cotton Bowl university bands and cheer squads are tentatively scheduled immediately following the parade outside the American Airlines Center. The family parade will feature some 80 entries including high school bands from across the country, 25 floats, helium balloons, equestrians, Cotton Bowl dignitaries, the world-famous Kilgore College Rangerettes, and the Cotton Bowl university bands, mascots, and cheerleaders. The Comerica Bank New Year’s Parade is presented by the J. Curtis Sanford Parade Committee and benefits the Field and Mary Scovell Scholarship Foundation.
